Not just any school… This is Polegate School

It says something when both the head and deputy have been at the school since qualifying as teachers!  Polegate School is a special place where children and staff are given opportunities to grow.

Aspiration and ambition is at the heart of everything we do.  We are striving to be exceptional in all aspects of our work and aim to make learning irresistible. Visit and see for yourselves why we have stayed so long!

Why work at Polegate?

Polegate is a thriving, vibrant school which is continually developing and improving and has a very good reputation locally. As a result of demand for places we are in the middle of a very exciting building project which will provide new facilities.

We have a reputation for creativity and innovation which will attract teachers who are both enthusiastic and ambitious. There is a real, genuine welcome for new staff who bring fresh ideas, commitment, energy and professionalism to our school in order to help every pupil exceed expectations.

We currently have 26 teachers and with the increase in pupil numbers there have been new teachers joining us, creating a positive blend of more experienced colleagues with new. As headteacher, I have been at the school since joining as an NQT (I’m not telling you how long ago that was!) as has my deputy so I think that tells you something about the environment we work in - we love it.

Polegate School is always interested in hearing from outstanding teachers who wish to join the school.

As a recently designated National Teaching School we place great importance on professional development at all levels from NQT to leadership and offer a wide range of professional development opportunities.

We make learning FUN! Pupils love coming to school and this is reflected in their behaviour and our very high attendance rates.

Our increasing trend in results over the last 6 years places us in the top 20% of schools nationally and pupils make outstanding progress.

We offer great facilities: a new sports hall; swimming pool; wildlife garden; outdoor gym; a well-resourced library; ICT is invested in with ipads, laptops and a media suite; all of which serve to enhance teaching and learning.

We are always looking for ways to improve work/life balance and have introduced a range of initiatives including but not limited to: staff social events throughout the year, a staff breakfast once a term, reducing meetings and reporting, liaison time with support staff. All teachers also benefit from shared PPA with all members of their team in an afternoon each week. We have teaching across the school, full time in KS1 and mornings in KS2.

Polegate itself is a growing town, located 10 minutes away from the beach and at the foot of the South Downs. Polegate is only half an hour from Brighton. There are great transport links provided by the train station just a few minutes walk from the school.
