Learning at our Nursery
Polegate School Nursery
Polegate School Nursery is led by a dedicated group of early years practitioners that are committed to creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for the children in our care.
We offer a variety of engaging experiences and fun play invitations in both our indoor and outdoor areas. These are based upon the natural seasonal cycle and the interests and needs of the children. We use the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage Development Matters’ as our framework and prepare the children for a smooth transition into Reception.
Some of our vehicles for learning include:
Settling In and Making Friends – getting to know each other, the nursery environment and key routines
Oh Help! Oh no! It’s a Gruffalo - exploring early Autumn, British wildlife and the woods
Plant a Tiny Seed – establishing our Edible garden and looking closely at what a seed needs to help it grow, recognising signs of Spring
Beetles, Bugs and Butterflies – getting ready for Summer with its blue skies and bug hunts, becoming familiar with lifecycles in the natural world
Down at the Bottom of the Garden – Fairies, knights and castles. Lots of story making, imagining, building and of course meeting some friendly dragons.
Learning Environments
Our indoor classroom has been designed to promote all strands of learning including communication, physical development, creativity, early maths and mark making. We have a lower garden, ‘Edible Garden’, top garden and grassy garden. Lots of free flow spaces to provide children with inspiring ways to learn. We also are very fortunate to use the school grounds too including their wildlife garden and field and the Reception environment over the year.
