Welcome to our School

Polegate School is a very happy and welcoming school with a staff team that is fantastic, nurturing and inspirational.

We want to provide the best learning experience possible. Whilst we are immensely proud of our school we are not complacent as we continually look for ways to improve. We hope this website captures the magic of the school.

OUTSTANDING but always striving for exceptional!

We are so very proud to announce that in January 2020 the school was awarded the outstanding judgement in all areas of the Ofsted framework.

Welcome to our school

Polegate School is situated on the outskirts of the town bordering the Cuckoo Trail to the East. It is just 4 miles inland from the coastal resort of Eastbourne and 4 miles south of the market town of Hailsham.

We currently have 515 pupils on roll. We have an established partnership with Willingdon Primary and Willingdon Community School. This was formed initially to improve the transition between the primary schools and Willingdon as the secondary school most of our pupils move on to. Our partnership has been incredibly successful and we have extended our objectives further with the aims of improving outcomes for all pupils across all three schools. We look forward to this partnership developing further.

The school is maintained by:
East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes, Tel: 0345 60 80 190

“I am continually impressed by the commitment of your team to ensure that the potential is maximised in all pupils and that they continue to progress even when they have achieved their ‘target levels.’ It must take considerable energy to maintain enthusiasm across the spectrum of ability.”

Governor - Jill Voyce

“Dear Polegate,
It was such a delight to visit your school yesterday. The children were so well behaved and interested and a credit to you all.”

Marion Shepperd - Deputy Lieutenant, Jubilee Award Ceremony

“Polegate's response to my daughter's bullying was amongst the best compared to the experience of other parents… in both independent and state schools. An experienced child/adolescent psychologist chaired the parents session, and he also commented that he felt our school had responded very well.”

Parent

“On each occasion, I’ve been struck by the general welcoming and courteous responses from all the children I’ve passed in corridors etc, including - smiling at me, holding doors open for me, saying (initiating) ‘Good afternoon’ etc. These are children I am not working with so their politeness is especially noticeable and makes the school environment feel welcoming overall to a new volunteer.”
